If a loved one is wheelchair-bound or uses a walker, stair lifts can improve home accessibility tenfold, while offering peace of mind. They are quick to install and easy to use. Stair lifts can provide stroke patients access between floors within a home, between the garage and the home, and beyond, so they are able to make full use of the home they love.

Accidents can also happen in the bathroom, where wet surfaces can become slippery. Amramp suggests grab bars and safety rails as important additions for showers, tubs, and toilets.

Winter Weather: Safety and Mobility Tips For Snow

Posted on Mon, Feb 13, 2017

Beautiful as it may be, harsh winter weather presents challenges to everyone.

Ice, slush, and freezing rain make walking and driving treacherous. Snow quickly covers important home entryways including stairs, walkways, and driveways. It must be cleared so you can move safely into and out of your home, but it can be heavy and time consuming to remove.

With these imminent winter concerns and more, the last thing you should worry about is loved ones with mobility concerns. Amramp can help assure they are safe and comfortable at home by installing a winter ramp rental. A temporary ramp helps ensure they can access and navigate their property, despite what Mother Nature has planned.

1.jpg

Rather than aluminum, wood, or concrete, our ramps are made of steel. Unique Amramp-Grip technology features open mesh ramp surface allows water to pass through. The drainage this creates helps prevent ice buildup that could cause slips and falls. Amramp is proud to offer the most slip-resistant surface available, as well as a design that promotes prompt defrosting.

Amramp ramp rentals also feature raised edges and easier wheelchair grip, to create safer and more convenient passage. A temporary rental offers peace of mind when you and your loved ones need it most — and then can be quickly removed when the season changes.

Amramp offers free estimates and ramp rentals can be installed quickly and easily. Rent them for as little or as much time as you’d like, at affordable rates. When winter does its worst, make sure your loved ones are safe, protected, and comfortable, with the freedom to come and go as they please.

Wheelchair manufacturer and installer Amramp offers innovative accessibility products, including the ADA–compliant, patented modular ramp system. On-site estimates are free and installation is generally within days, often within 24 hours.

For more about Amramp’s wheelchair ramp and aging-in-place products and services, or free on-site estimates, please contact Amramp’s National Customer Service Center at 888-715-7598.

5 home-safety products for elders’ holiday wish lists

Posted on Wed, Dec 21, 2016

Your Loved Ones Can't Refuse a Present from Santa: Get Them On Board with Home Modifications

Of more than 46.2 million elderly people living in the United States, 90 percent wish to remain in their own homes. With this in mind, there is a growing need to address this population’s safety needs and concerns so they may safely do so.

One of the biggest challenges in meeting the needs of the elderly population is getting them to recognize those needs for themselves! From “I’m fine!” to “It was just a little slip,” the aging generation often downplays their need for help in safely navigating their own property. As loved ones and caretakers, it’s up to us to let them know what is available – and affordable – to keep them safely living at home.

5 holiday wish list home-safety products

Have your parents add these to their list “for Santa.” Need help convincing them? See the “why” behind them. They each have their own benefits, but together, they allow your loved ones to keep calling the place they love home!

Vertical platform lifts

An essential for accessing raised entries in and around the home. From the stairway that connects the garage to the home, or the front steps that lead to the mailbox, there are raised entries that your loved ones need to access every day.

Why: When loved ones’ grapple with compromised mobility, they still need the freedom to come and go as they please, and carry on with day-to-day living. A vertical platform lift offers independence.

Wheelchair ramps

Make daily navigation a breeze with a slip resistant surface.  Available to rent or own, wheelchair ramps can be easily installed and fitted to most any entryway.

Why: You don’t have to be wheelchair-bound to benefit from a ramp in the home. Stairs are tricky at any age, and become increasingly so as we age. This is a good safety move in general, especially if they are getting around on their own using a walker or wheelchair. Consider if they fell, whether anyone would know. We all know how popular the “I’ve fallen and can’t get up” systems are.

Grab bars

They prevent slips and falls that can be detrimental to the health of our loved ones, young and old. Safety grab bars can be quickly installed by experts into showers and tubs.

Why: They may be feeling well now, and thank goodness! But a quick slip and broken hip or knee can change everything, and these accidents become more dangerous with age.

Stair lifts – easily installed and designed for safe, comfortable, and independent use rather than hazardous staircases.

They provide the convenience and comfort of independent use rather than hazardous staircases. They can be fit to all types of staircases, indoor and out.

Why: If your loved ones want to age at home, he or she should be free to access the entire home, and not just parts of it. What good is an upstairs bedroom when it’s not accessible? Stair lifts offer unparalleled freedom to make use of the entire space.

Automatic door openers

Without the need for tricky wiring, an automatic door opener can be affixed to any indoor or outdoor door, based on individual needs.

Why: Finagling doors can be tricky, especially when your hands are full. How convenient is it to walk into a store when you’re pushing a grocery cart, and have the doors just open for you? This solution is all about convenience and ease. This is especially key for loved ones who use walkers and other aids, or perhaps have trouble reaching for doorknobs or locks from a wheelchair. This is also crucial for arthritis and MS sufferers whose hands simply don’t work as they should.

With the help of home modifications and safety solutions, our elderly loved ones can be where they want to be, and you can be sure they’re safe. Remind them of this, and they’re sure to get on board. If not, Santa will take the heat!

Home stair lifts: retain independence and comfort at home without sacrificing safety

Posted on Mon, Dec 12, 2016

Home stair lifts installed by Amramp accessibility experts

Much like people, no two homes are alike. They come in all shapes and sizes, from two floors to split-level and beyond. Likewise, different areas of the home serve very different functions — perhaps the ground level is your main living space, and the second floor is for sleeping and bathing.

No matter how your home is set up, it has to be functional for everyone living there. Unfortunately, that’s not possible when a resident has limited mobility and becomes unable to navigate stairs. After all, what good is an upstairs bedroom when you can’t get upstairs?

The stair lift experts at Amramp are here to ensure that’s a question you won’t have to answer. Amramp installs affordable stair lift to make your home (or business) completely accessible, no matter your needs.

10 reasons stair lifts are an excellent choice for total home mobility

  1. Safe
  2. Comfortable
  3. Easy-to-use
  4. Designed for independent use, with onboard and remote controls
  5. Practical, fold-up design
  6. Can be customized, and/or installed to fit curved staircases
  7. Suitable for indoor or outdoor use, depending on where you need access
  8. Affordable
  9. Quickly and easily installed with no mess
  10. Restore freedom and independence in the home

Mike from Telford, Tennessee, wrote to Amramp about his experience with an Amramp-installed stair lift in the home.

He said, “I can get to the car, go to the mail box and let my dog out. The chair lift is so easy to use, and is not an eye sore. You did a great job measuring and planning the design. Your crew did a great job installing the chair…thanks again for your professionalism and attention to detail.”

It’s your home. Make sure you and your loved ones can enjoy it fully! The stair lift experts at Amramp can make your home completely accessible in days not weeks with an Amramp stair lift that is suitable for all types of spaces. Your health and mobility are paramount.

Wheelchair manufacturer and installer Amramp installs innovative accessibility products, including the ADA–compliant, patented modular ramp system. On-site estimates are free and installation is generally within days, often within 24 hours.
