When you get to your front steps, what do you do? The same thing you do when you get to a staircase attaching your garage to your house, or your deck to your back door: You climb them. In fact, it presents a challenge that can be frustrating, restricting, and downright dangerous.

Amramp experts at National Workers' Comp Disability Conference

Posted on Mon, Nov 28, 2016

Amramp shares installed accessibility innovations at NWCDC, nation's leading workers' compensation conference

For 24 years, the National Workers' Compensation and Disability Conference® (NWCDC) has provided the best workers' compensation and disability management training available. Attracting thousands of industry professionals this year in New Orleans as well as more than 260 vendors, the NWCDC is the nation's leading event for anyone involved in the workers' compensation.

In 2015 alone, this industry assisted some 2.9 million Americans who experienced nonfatal workplace injuries in the private sector, as reported by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

NonOccupationalInjury_Chart_2003_2015.png

NWCDC organizers selected 260+ vendors of claims management software, cost containment solutions, managed care services, medical/pharmaceutical products, RTW services, risk management solutions, and much more: “There's no better place to find, compare, and contrast all the products, tools, and services to help you with your toughest workers’ comp and disability management challenges.”

Wheelchair manufacturer and installer Amramp will be exhibiting hand-selected innovative accessibility products, including the ADA-compliant, patented modular ramp system.

Attendees can also complete continuing education credits, approved for AAOHN, CDMSC, CCMC, CRCC, CWCP, and HRCI.

NWCDC kicks off with an opening keynote by Tim East, Director of Corporate Risk Management at The Walt Disney Company. “Fueling Injury Recovery With Engaged Workers” focuses on engaging injured workers in their own recovery. Resolving claims, East advocates, “produces better outcomes for both the employer and employee.” East will discuss how changing demands for technological experiences provide clues for how workers’ comp must evolve to meet the claims experiences workers now demand.

One of the myriad mega-sessions includes: “Preventing Prolonged Disability by Assessing and Eliminating Psychosocial Barriers” by Marcos Iglesias M.D., VP & Medical Director at The Hartford. A common challenge for workers’ compensation and disability managers is the conundrum caused by different individuals with the same medical conditions having widely dissimilar recovery durations. Since risk factors for delayed recoveries and disparate functional outcomes can be uncovered and addressed, Dr. Iglesias will “provide practical tools and interventions for mitigating psychosocial risk factors as well as examine how to help workers reengage with normal life activities through measures such as a biopsychosocial model of health.” Dr. Iglesias draws from his experience overseeing the development and implementation of comprehensive disability management solutions that focus on early identification of psychosocial risk factors and appropriate early interventions.

With 45 locally owned and operated locations across the US – and now in Canada – Amramp is dedicated to helping injured employees and anyone experiencing mobility challenges regain their freedom. Wheelchair manufacturer and installer Amramp’s installed innovative accessibility products, includes the ADA–compliant, patented modular ramp system. On-site estimates are free and installation is generally within days, often within 24 hours.

Amramp Provides Access for Keystone Military Families Food Bank in Shoemakersville, PA

Keystone Amramp Provides Access for Keystone Military Families Food Bank in Shoemakersville PA.jpg

Keystone Military Families Food Bank is an organization based in Shoemakersville, Pennsylvania that has been assisting deployed troops, veterans and military families since 2002. Their goal is to provide support to the military community while preserving their dignity. They are currently operating a food bank at their Shoemakersville center, serving from 40 to 60 families weekly. They found that some of their families had difficulty accessing the center because it was not wheelchair accessible. They turned to Nick Marcellino to install a wheelchair ramp. Nick and Amramp Philadelphia team were honored to be able to be able to help and provide the ramp.

It was a very moving moment when the ramp was completed. It brought tears to the eyes of the staff members. They were all so thankful that the food pantry was now wheelchair accessible for everyone to be able to access safely and easily.

Keystone Military Families functions as a resource center and assists Veteran families in finding whatever type of help is needed, from rent assistance to job searches and counseling services. There is an in-house counselor provided by the Lancaster Veterans Center to assist individuals or families with mental health and reintegration issues. KMF works closely with the VA Hospitals, Veterans centers in 5 counties and other organizations that provide assistance. They are a close knit community that is proud to serve our military members, our veterans and their families.

Our military and veterans have given up many things in their service to our country. Those who are deployed should not have to worry if their kids have enough breakfast before school or if the baby will have diapers and food. Many spouses lose jobs when they transfer to a new area with their military member. There are several hundred thousand combat injured vets who are waiting for a medical determination and have no income during the up-to 18 months that determination can take. There are a host of other reasons they end up in a tight money squeeze and the bottom line is they just need some help to get through this crisis and back on their feet.

An added benefit to the pantry is that we work very closely with the Family Action Center Specialists, the VA Hospital, SSVF, Salvation Army, Veterans Centers in 5 counties and many military support organizations and groups. When someone comes to the pantry we can also assess their current needs and direct them to the other sources of help they may qualify for. We do not cover electric or heating bills but we know of 3 other organizations that do so we can get them set up with an appointment. We do not handle any medical issues but if they appear to need some sort of medical evaluation we can get an appointment set up with the FACS to get things rolling.

If you are interested in volunteering or providing assistance in some way, please call Keystone Military Families at 610-698-2122 and they will get you set up with something that fits your abilities.

4 easy ways to make your home safer for holiday guests

Posted on Tue, Nov 15, 2016

There’s no place like home for the holidays, as the saying goes — but is your home safe and welcoming for every guest on your list this year?

Consider special mobility issues that may be new this year, or have changed since your last gathering. Maybe you’re hosting your aunt who had her hip replaced last month, or your father-in-law, who just doesn’t get around as easily as he used to. A wheelchair ramp rental or other short-term accessibility solutions from Amramp can help make your festivities a success for everyone on your guest list.

Whatever the case, Amramp can offer the proper mobility solution to ensure that the holidays remain a time of relaxation and togetherness, rather than undue stress of accessibility issues or possible slips and falls.

Here are our four tips to help make your home safer and more accessible for all of your holiday guests:

Amramp_ThanksgivingHolidayRental.jpg

Wheelchair ramp rentals, even for a day

Avoid last minute panic with one of Amramp’s durable, ADA-compliant ramps that are 100% customized to accommodate 99% of properties. Made of steel, the wheelchair ramps have a gripping texture to prevent skidding or icing. You work hard on maintaining your home, and the steel wheelchair ramps create an aesthetic that’s suitable for residential use and leave no permanent damage.

There is no minimal or maximum rental period, so you can be accommodated no matter how long your guests will be staying. Amramp also provides free on-site estimates on your schedule, and ramps can be installed and removed quickly — even in harsh winter weather.

De-clutter your home

Consider that loved one who use wheelchairs and walkers and other assistive mobility devices will need additional room to maneuver. Kids’ toys, hall tables, baskets for mittens all should be removed for this short time. Consider that your guests, even the ones who have no mobility concerns, may be hard of sight and could trip.

Don’t forget to ditch the area rugs

Area rugs – in the kitchen, the bathroom, bath mats, they’re everywhere. But for the holidays, ditch them if you have older guests, or very young guests who are just mastering walking. They can easily trip, too, area rug or not! Luckily, babies and toddlers don’t land in the hospital though.

Light-up at night

Loved ones – young and old – in unfamiliar places are easily disoriented, especially at night. Don’t spare the nightlights. Battery-operated LEDs that only light up when they detect motion are cheap and efficient, and most importantly effective.

Wondering when to check off a wheelchair rental of your to-do list?

Contact Amramp as soon as possible, so we can ensure that your local expert mobility solution installers – all across the U.S and now in Canada – will be able to meet your needs. Installation can happen as quickly as 24-48 hours after you approve your quote, but being a busy time of year, we encourage you to book ahead.

The holidays are a time to gather close to your loved ones, so welcome them into your home with a safe, affordable short-term accessibility solution from Amramp. Happy holidays to you and yours!

Elders, geriatric specialists, and entities supporting them are sharing best practices and innovative aging-in-place solutions for independent elder care at the National PACE Association’s Annual Conference Oct. 23-26 in San Francisco at the Hyatt Regency Embarcadero Hotel.

Hyatt_Regency_San_Francisco_Lobby-1.jpg

The PACE – Programs of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly – Model of Care has its roots in San Francisco’s Chinatown-North Beach community, which realized a pressing need for long-term care services for its immigrant elders in the early 1970s. A committee led by William Gee, DDS, a public health dentist, hired Marie-Louise Ansak to investigate solutions. Working with other community leaders, they formed a nonprofit corporation called On Lok Senior Health Services to create a community-based system of care.

The National PACE Association aims to provide leadership and support for growth, innovation, quality, and success of the PACE Model of Care, which is recognized among consumers, health care providers, and government leaders as the most innovative, accessible, valuable, and effective model of care promoting the highest level of independence for individuals with significant health care needs.

PACE has grown considerably and currently has 107 programs operating in 32 states, where it offers services such as:

  • adult day care
  • physical, occupational, and recreational therapies
  • meal delivery
  • nutritional counseling
  • home health care and personal care
  • prescription drugs
  • social services
  • medical specialties, such as audiology, dentistry, optometry, podiatry, and speech therapy

The keynote speaker for the National PACE Association’s 2016 Annual Conference is Allison Massari, a masterful storyteller with a soul-stirring message that is content-rich with actionable takeways. Burn survivor, renowned artist, and champion of compassion and courage, Allison Massari teaches how to overcome adversity, triumph through change, and thrive with grace.

Amramp joins 25 exhibitors at the annual PACE conference to present and discuss how to continue providing innovative solutions for non-institutionalized, independent elder care.

Wheelchair manufacturer and installer Amramp offers innovative accessibility products, including the ADA-compliant, patented modular ramp system. On-site estimates are free and wheelchair ramp and home safety installations are generally within days, often within 24 hours.

Historic Friary in Edmonton Now Barrier-Free Thanks to Amramp

Amramp Alberta Canada Provides Barrier Free Access to Historic Friary

Lorne Wensel and #Amramp Alberta has just completed a 107-foot #barrierfreeaccessramp on the historic #St.FrancisofAssisi Facility. This was the original friary for the Franciscan Order in #Edmonton. The historic 1925 building features Gothic-arched windows on the ground floor and a metal cornice around the roof line.

The building has been renovated and re-purposed by the John Bosco Child and Family Services Foundation. The foundation provides suitable facilities for not-for-profit organizations, assisting them in providing human services to individuals and families, whom -- through no fault of their own -- are struggling with many challenges.

The building now has a barrier-free access ramp and will also have a new interior elevator. Once all the renovations and upgrades are completed, not-for-profit organizations will be using it for office space.

Amramp Alberta was proud to work on this historic Alberta structure and honors the foundation's  support to the Edmondton community and beyond.
