As an expo participant, Amramp will have the opportunity to meet and discuss options with thousands of case managers who will use or recommend Amramp’s mobility solutions to provide their patients with limited mobility with the best care available.

Expo attendees are diverse in terms of their years of experience in clinical practice, as well as their disciplines, including physicians, nurses, social workers, pharmacists, behavioral health practitioners, and other patient advocates.

Along with the expo, the conference will feature an annual meeting, awards ceremony, symposiums, daily group sessions, keynote speakers, and more. Daily sessions will cover topics like industry trends and best practices, the impacts of recent changes in legislation, and topics like science, spirit, and culture. Amramp Chicago Helps Dog Recover From Surgery

Posted on Wed, Mar 20, 2013

Amramp Builds a Dog Ramp in Snowstorm for a Rhodesian Ridgeback Recovering From
Surgery in Chicago area

Bill Woods, Amramp Chicago, got a call from a pet lover recently. Their Rhodesian Ridgeback dog was having surgery that day.

The dog weighs about 90 pounds and could not take the steps at home. The owners certainly could not carry him, so they needed a dog ramp immediately.

Bill said, “We were able to visit the home for an evaluation that same day and my installers went out in a nasty snowstorm to install the next day. From phone call to install, in less than 24 hours.

“They modified the deck railing to keep it safe for the young children who also live in the home. They also attached a runner on one half of the 36” surface leaving the other half open for two legged users.

“Way to go Doug and Eddy (Amramp Chicago installers). You guys are the ones who make Amramp the premier ramp provider in the country.”

Amramp Installs 174-Foot Ramp at Boston’s Historic Faneuil Hall Rotunda

Faneuil Hall Chooses Amramp for Full Accessibility During Elevator Upgrades

Can anyone provide a temporary ramp for wheelchair access to the second level of the mall?

It was a big job, but Amramp of Boston was more than up to the task.

The Commerce Center Mall at Faneuil Hall is currently undergoing elevator changes that will eliminate essential wheelchair access to the second-level shops. Management contacted Amramp for a solution that would comply with codes and not impact the historic space in any way.

The Commerce Center Mall is one of Boston's premier shopping, dining, and tourism hotspots, as well as a major historic landmark attracting 100,000 visitors daily.

In less than 48 hours after authorization to proceed, Amramp began producing engineering and City of Boston building permits. Work began over the weekend and by working 12 hours each day, the ramp was completed exactly on time. The City of Boston Building Department approved the stamped engineering plans and issued a work permit. By Monday, the Amramp team had already started installing the 174-foot ramp, spanning 14'8" in elevation.

The ramp is crucial, not just for complying with the Americans With Disabilities Act, but without a ramp to the second floor, all of the shops would have closed for at least a month. Faneuil Hall attracts 100,000 visitors daily, rain or shine: Closed shops incur significant damage to shops’ sales – and lost revenue for one of Boston’s premier landmarks.

The installation team worked 12-hour days to get the job completed. The installation started Monday, finishing up at 2 PM on Friday. Chief installer Brad Blakeman worked with two crew chiefs on the job, Jason Bradley and Drew Gibson, along with fellow installers' helpers Derek Bartulio, Tyrone Dickerson, and Tony McGill. The overall project manager was Steve Turner, while Conor Sweeney and Fran Barry handled the staging of materials, pre-assembly, planning, and engineering, and Jon Gordon served as the sales contact.

"I am so very proud to be associated with this team of dedicated people," says Amramp President and Founder Julian Gordon. "Faneuil Hall is a perfect example of how historic buildings can remain functional for everyone all of mobility levels, especially when mechanical features like an elevator are not working. An Amramp wheelchair ramp works rain or shine, and especially well in snow, with a steel-mesh platform that disperses precipitation.”

Faneuil Hall is named after wealthy Boston merchant Peter Faneuil, who built the structure in 1742 as a gift to the city. Faneuil Hall, also known as Quincy Market, is home to more than 100 upscale shops, restaurants, and specialty pushcarts, but it's also the spot where the original signers of the Declaration of Independence gathered from nearby Colonies before they started the big journey to Philadelphia in 1776. It has served as a gathering place for many famous historical figures over the centuries.

The ramp was built entirely from in-stock, standard Amramp materials, reflecting the huge range and capabilities of Amramp's unique modular system, but also highlighting the skills and engineering expertise of Amramp’s expert installers.

Wheelchair Ramp Safety in Snow: Amramp-Grip Surface

Posted on Fri, Feb 15, 2013

Amramp’s Patented Wheelchair Ramp Surface Improves Safety and Accessibility in Wintery Conditions

It’s all over the news; blizzards and winter storms are really taking their toll on parts of the U.S. Winter Storm Nemo walloped the Northeast earlier this month, setting historic records as it took down trees, caused power outages for entire cities, and dumped up to 40 inches of snow in certain areas. Parts of the upper Midwest were also blasted by blizzards in December, and another round of winter storms will be heading that way soon, even as residents in the Northeast are still bogged under mounds of heavy snow.

Despite Punxsutawney Phil’s optimistic Groundhog Day predictions that spring will be arriving soon this year, it is always best to take the necessary precautions to ensure that winter weather does not create slippery, unsafe conditions for those with mobility issues.

A wheelchair ramp still needs to be a means of safe entry and exit, especially in snow and other severe weather conditions.

Amramp’s strong, durable steel ramps are made with patented Amramp-Grip technology, featuring an open mesh surface that allows water to pass through to prevent dangerous and slippery ice film from forming. The raised edge of the surface also makes it easier for wheelchair wheels to grip, allowing for safer navigation. Other ramps created by other companies made from aluminum, wood, or concrete have solid surfaces, which allow moisture to accumulate and ice over in below-freezing temperatures. The Amramp-Grip technology is unique, and it offers the most slip-resistant surface available on the market today.

Only the Amramp-Grip surface does not accumulate water, the ramps are at an incline, so rain, snow, and ice can still make ramp usage more difficult or potentially more slippery than usual. You will want to use common sense and caution as you factor in treacherous weather conditions.

Recommended Snow & Ice Removal Tips for Wheelchair Ramps

It is very important that you do NOT use salt de-icer on your Amramp ramp. We recommend using a broom or a plastic shovel to clear off your ramp, or purchase an approved liquid de-icer, available locally or through Amramp. (Please consult your local Amramp ramp expert for more information)

Amramp is proud to offer our customers the safest ramps currently available for all weather conditions.

Winter Slips and Falls, Ski Injuries: Amramp Can Help

Weather-Related Winter Injuries & Mobility Solutions From Amramp

Winter in North America usually brings with it cold, snow, and ice (in some areas), and these slippery conditions never fail to cause all sorts of weather-related accidents and injuries, usually related to slipping and falling, pulling something while shoveling snow, or, commonly, mishaps that happen on the ski slopes. Also, despite recent unseasonably warm winters in many areas, ski season is upon us, which brings additional sports-related injuries.

What are your options if you or someone you love becomes physically incapacitated or mobility-challenged? Or what happens if you have older relatives in wheelchairs coming to stay for the holidays (or longer) and you want to make your living spaces and/or gatherings comfortable and fully accessible to them?

Fortunately, Amramp offers a variety of both short- and long-term solutions, with franchise locations all across the US and Canada. And Amramp is more than just North America’s leading wheelchair ramp company; Amramp also offer a wide range of top-of-the-line accessibility solution products like stair lifts, vertical platform lifts, portable showers, pool lifts (great for warmer areas or indoor pools!), threshold ramps, portable ramps, grab bars, alert devices, and more.

An unexpected accident, injury, or change in a person's health/mobility level can be a very difficult and confusing experience for both the individual and her caregivers. Adapting to new physical and structural challenges can be intimidating; even if it's only a short-term situation.

Amramp makes this transition much easier and more comfortable, and our caring, friendly, knowledgeable experts are available to install ramps and other products quickly and easily. Our products are RENTABLE, adaptable, portable, and able to be deconstructed and reassembled.

If you or a loved one find yourself in a situation this winter where mobility becomes an issue, don’t despair; Amramp’s mission is to provide you with solutions for navigating your environment in a new way.

Amramp helps paralyzed Tulane player Devon Walker spend the holidays at home

Posted on Wed, Dec 19, 2012

Devon Walker, a prominent member of the Tulane University defense fractured his spine on a tackle September 8, 2012 in a football game against Tulsa.

Devon came home to Destrehan, LA after nearly three months of hospitalization, treatment and rehab in Tulsa and Atlanta to spend the holidays with his family and friends.

Amramp Baton Rouge provided two portable wheelchair ramps and provided some training for Devon’s mom on their use. She was happy to have the ramps and even remarked that because they were portable she could take them with her and use them in different venues. The ramps will make it much easier for Devon to get into and out of his home.

A Snowy Amramp Ramp Install in Edmonton

Posted on Mon, Dec 17, 2012

EDMONTON, Canada - A few hours of heavy snowfall blanketed streets and snarled traffic in and around Edmonton on Wednesday, reducing visibility to almost nothing and causing dozens of collisions in snowy intersections. CTV meteorologist Josh Classen said “the last time Edmonton had this much snow fall in one December day was on Dec. 4, 2009, when 16 centimetres fell in the city.”  “The snowfall added about 15 more centimetres of fluffy snow to some areas around Edmonton. With the snow that was already on the ground, the total snow depth in Edmonton is about 20- 25 centimetres”, he said.

Light snow started Wednesday morning but became heavier as time went on, moving over Edmonton, Sherwood Park Ft. Saskatchewan and St. Albert. By mid-afternoon, Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) detachments in Morinville, Stony Plain and Whitecourt had issued warnings about poor road conditions as near whiteout conditions hit highways north and west of the city, and motorists were being advised to stay home.

On Wednesday morning Amramp Alberta arrived in Ft. Saskatchewan to install a ramp for a client being discharged the next day. Even with the impending weather reports there was no turning back. When Amramp arrived, the site was clear and clean and a mild -10 C. By the time the ramp material was off loaded and set up for install the temp had dropped and to -15C and the snow had started! Within 20 minutes you could no longer see where materials staged to install were because of the snow fall. Eight foot handrails disappeared into the fluffy white snow like magic. We kept sweeping and installing and trying to manage the ramp parts. At one point you could only make out an outline of the ramp with all the snow. In the end the ramp went in, the skies cleared and we could see our work.

Amramp’s non-skid mesh surface allows the snow to fall through to help prevent dangerous snow and ice build-up. Because there is no need to dig footings, Amramp can be installed in almost any type of weather, any time of year, even in Ft. Saskatchewan in the winter!
