Wheelchair Ramps: Amramp Provides Access in any Situation

Amramp welcomes the National PACE Association to our home city of Boston for their annual conference

Posted on Mon, Oct 02, 2017

National PACE Association (NPA) will hold its annual conference right in Amramp headquarters' home city of Boston, Massachusetts, which means we don't have to travel very far to showcase patented wheelchair ramps and home accessibility solutions.

PACE (Programs of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly) is an organization Amramp has partnered with and supported for many years in our shared goal of making life easier and more comfortable for aging people —particularly in terms of mobility. Losing physical functionality with age can be disheartening, but many quality Amramp-installed products, like vertical lifts and stair lifts, enable elderly homeowners and renters to live the fullest lives possible in their golden years.

2017's NPA Annual Conference takes place at the stunning Westin Boston Waterfront hotel in the popular Seaport district. Close to 700 professionals will gather this year to share experiences and learn from one another through educational sessions, networking events, poster presentations, and more.

Some will opt to arrive early for pre-conference training in subjects like

PACE Basics,

Intake/Marketing Workshop, and

Primary Care symposia, Nursing symposia, and

Quality symposia.

On October 16th, the conference enters full swing with a Networking PACE Professionals Luncheon, a PACE keynote speech from Dr. BJ Miller, who gave the renowned TED Talk “What Really Matters at the End of Life,” and a conference-wide Opening Night Reception with fun historical interactive programming.

Education is the heart of PACE conference and encompasses Special NPA Workgroup Sessions as well as more innovative sessions:

  • Promoting Resilience and Empowerment in PACE: An Introduction to Trauma-Informed Care,
  • Supporting Communication in the Day Health Center for Participants with Hearing Loss and Dementia,
  • An Enhanced Ethics Culture Can Improve Clinical Outcomes and Minimize Moral Distress,
  • Sometimes You Want to Go Where Everyone Knows Your Name and They're Always Glad You Came: How to Successfully Open a Designated Memory Support Area, and
  • Current Public Policy Developments Impacting PACE.

Boston's own Neighborhood PA is host program for the conference; attendees can join offsite visits to their wellness center as well as the Elder Service Plan of Harbor Health PACE Center, the Elder Service Plan of Cambridge Health Alliance PACE Center, and Upham's Corner Elder Service Plan PACE Center.

If you plan to attend, make sure to install the NPA Annual Conference mobile app through Whova to make conference navigation easier and more streamlined. You won't want to miss this year's fitness event, an exciting 6K walk/run through the South End of the city—Boston is known as “America's Walking City,” and we certainly hope you'll walk on over to the Amramp exhibitor booth and say hello!

Amramp Selected to Exhibit at the 2015 NPA Annual Conference in Philadelphia

Amramp is honored to be selected to showcase its installed accessibility products and solutions at the 2015 National PACE Association (NPA) Annual Conference, Oct. 18-21, in Philadelphia.

PACE, aka Programs of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly, develops sustainable programs to deliver medical and supportive services to elders 55 and older whom the state certifies needing nursing home-level care.

Strikingly, only about 7% of PACE participants actually reside in a nursing home. Instead, PACE provides services and preserves independence in their own homes, with community support. This event, which is held exclusively for NPA members, exists to advance Programs of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly programs and provide networking and learning opportunities to the executive and clinical staff work tirelessly to support and promote comprehensive, quality, and cost-effective health care services for seniors.

The PACE model of care first began in the early 1970s when William Gee, a public health dentist who headed the nonprofit Chinatown-North Beach Health Care Planning and Development Corporation, hired social worker Marie-Louise Ansak to study the feasibility of building a nursing home in the community. When she found that building a nursing home would be financially impossible, she developed a comprehensive system of care based on the geriatric day-hospital model developed in the UK during the late 1950s and 1960s. Ansak then worked to obtain funding to train health care workers in cooperation with the University of California San Francisco. Since then PACE has grown considerably and currently has 107 programs operating in 32 states, where they offer services such as:

  • adult day care

  • physical, occupational, and recreational therapies

  • meal delivery

  • nutritional counseling

  • home health care and personal care

  • prescription drugs

  • social services

  • medical specialties, such as audiology, dentistry, optometry, podiatry, and speech therapy

More than 600 individuals attended the 2014 NPA Annual Conference, this year is expected to be even bigger. With more than 60 education sessions and 20 poster presentations, attendees will have the opportunity to learn and, with over 25 companies exhibiting.

This year’s keynote speaker Dr. Leana Wen is an emergency-room physician, Rhodes Scholar, author, and TED speaker. Dr. Wen received her medical training at Washington University and Brigham & Women's Hospital/Massachusetts General Hospital, where she was a clinical fellow at Harvard Medical School. As a professor of emergency medicine and health policy, she co-led a national collaboration on health policy and social mission and was founder and director of Who’s My Doctor, a campaign calling for transparency in medicine. The focus of Dr. Wen’s TED talks surround patient advocacy and health care reform. She recently released a book entitled When Doctors Don't Listen: How to Avoid Misdiagnoses and Unnecessary Tests. Her speaking fee will be donated to Baltimore-area and other charities.

Amramp is looking forward to being a part of this conference that shares our passion for helping seniors maintain their independence. We will be demonstrating Amramp’s latest accessibility products, including our patent-pending modular ramp system, vertical lifts, and portable showers. Looking forward to seeing all PACE members in Philadelphia!

Amramp to showcase accessibility products at PACE, the premier senior care program conference

Posted on Fri, Oct 17, 2014

PACE (Programs of All-inclusive Care for the Elderly) is an organization that is aligned with Amramp's own mission as a company: to provide mobility solutions and full accessibility to all, including the senior population in America and Canada, which is why we wouldn't miss this year’s annual PACE Conference, taking place October 26th-29th at the Hilton Bayfront in San Diego, California.

PACE’s programs “support, maintain, safeguard, and promote the provision of quality, comprehensive and cost-effective health care services for frail older adults,” so it’s easy to see how Amramp’s weatherproof wheelchair ramps and other accessibility products could be a tremendous asset to those using PACE for their elder care needs. Amramp is proud to be hosting a booth at the conference's vendor EXPO, where we will educate conference attendees about the benefits of and synergy between Amramp mobility solutions and PACE senior care programs. Amramp will be one of more than 30 companies exhibiting at the 2014 conference.

2014 is special in that it marks 20 years for the PACE organization, which boasts 100+ programs in more than 30 states (and growing). Along with celebrating, the 2014 conference will offer educational opportunities to keep attendees up-to-speed on new changes in the evolving elder care marketplace, such as regulations, state government priorities, technology, and consumer preferences. This knowledge will be imparted via almost 60 concurrent education sessions and 12 poster presentations. An open learning format will encourage discussion and idea-sharing between guests. Attendees can look forward to cutting-edge talks on numerous topics, including these:

  • The Aging of Addictions: Addressing Addiction Treatment in PACE
  • Ready to Serve? The Invisible LGBT Older Adult
  • The PACE Model Works: Improving the Bottom Line through Best Practices in Care
  • Empowering Wellness: Interdisciplinary Approach to Chronic Pain Management for Multicultural Population of Older Adults
  • Self-Directed/Self-Selected Personal Care in PACE, and
  • Caring for the Caregiver: A Caregiver Support Program.

For the keynote speech, leadership expert Simon T. Bailey will teach listeners how to “shift your brilliance” and maximize your potential for success. Pre-conference learning opportunities will also be available, including:

  • PACE Basics
  • Intake/Marketing
  • Primary Care Symposium
  • Quality Improvement Symposium, and
  • Nursing Symposium.

One of the most exciting elements of the PACE conference each year is the opportunity to do site visits to local PACE programs. This year, conference-goers are invited to check out two programs operated by St. Paul’s PACE, as well as the opportunity to tour San Diego PACE, which is scheduled to open in 2015.

We are looking forward to seeing many of you at the conference in late October; if you'll be attending, please stop by Booth #7 and say hello!

Amramp Attending National PACE Association Conference in Los Angeles

Posted on Mon, Oct 15, 2012

Be sure to visit Amramp in Los Angeles at the 2012 National PACE Association Conference

Be sure to Visit Amramp in Los Angeles at the 2012 National PACE Association Conference

The National Program of All-inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) Association will be holding its yearly conference from October 14-17 at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza in Los Angeles, and Amramp will be hosting an exhibitor booth to educate attendees on Amramp’s comprehensive line of home accessibility and Aging in Place products and services. This will be the first year that Amramp has participated in the annual PACE conference, which changes locations from year to year.

For those unfamiliar with the organization, PACE is for seniors age 55 and older who would otherwise need to live in nursing homes, but instead offers them services and support to continue living at home or with loved ones. Although PACE participants need to have a certifiably proven need for nursing home care, only about 7% nationally reside in nursing homes, and if they do, PACE pays for it and continues to coordinate the recipient’s care.

PACE is a model of healthcare “centered around the belief that it is better for the well-being of seniors with chronic care needs and their families to be served in the community whenever possible.”

Amramp and PACE are a perfect match: Amramp provides and installs ramps and home accessibility products such as lifts and installation of home safety products by experts to make nearly any home accessible to people of all mobility levels. Amramp believes the PACE goal of community-based care improves quality of life for elders and those with chronic conditions who need support.

“Amramp is thrilled to be taking part in our first PACE conference,” says Barbara Gayton, Amramp’s director of marketing. “We are eager to show new products and home accessibility solutions to PACE participants and administrators that are already making Aging in Place possible for thousands of Americans and Canadians.”

PACE holds its annual conference to inform participants of new program offerings, but also to talk about changes in law and policy that affect the program, such as the recently passed Affordable Care Act. The conference location changes year-to-year, but each location is in a district that offers PACE programs, which allows guests to actually visit different sites and see the programs “in action.”

The 2012 Pace conference highlights include  symposia, luncheons, education sessions, and roundtable discussions. And of course Los Angeles offers a diverse array of fun places to visit: Attendees will have the chance to see historic landmarks like the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Santa Monica Pier, the Hollywood Sign, and Beverly Hills – but one of the most anticipated outings of the weekend is an evening at Universal Studios Hollywood.

If you will be attending the PACE Conference Los Angeles 2012, make sure to visit the exhibitor expo, stop by the Amramp booth and say hello to Director of Marketing Barbara Gayton!
